G41A GONS ARE BACK

The 38" wheel sets are here, and that means the Kit 112 line is available again.  The Kit 103 group is still "off line" due to a stubborn mold.  I'll announce when they are back in production once I sort out a new set of molds.

DECAL CATALOG

One of the most frequently requested items are decal sets. Up until now, purchasing additional or replacement decal sets required an e-mail request and quote. Now, there is a new catalog page that lists all available decal sets.

The new decal catalog can be found by clicking here or by scrolling to the bottom of the kit listing on the main Catalog page.

The shipping calculator has been modified to process decal only orders (Up to 12 sets) for $2.00 postage.  Orders for more than 12 decal sets will ship for the next postage rate. Mixed orders of decals and kits should be handled as well.  If you believe your shopping cart wasn't processed correctly, please to contact me and I'll try to sort things out.

KADEE #78 COUPLER UPDATE

All Rail Yard Models kits have now been modified to work with either the #158 or #156 whisker couplers.  (The two tank car kits can use McHenry's shelf couplers.)  Hopefully there will be no further disruptions in Kadee's product line-up.

For those customers that have unbuilt Rail Yard Models kits, the best and safest course of action I can suggest at this time is to pick up enough #78 couplers for each of your kits.

Tests show that the existing Rail Yard Models #78 compatible draft gear castings can be modified to work with the #158 whisker couplers. If you would like to use #158 couplers (#156 long shank for Kits 101 & 112) in your kit, follow the instructions in this conversion file.

The original explanation of this change is here:

Kadee Quality Products has announced in their August 2010 Newsletter that the #78 coupler is to be discontinued.  Most Rail Yard Models products currently specify use of the Kadee #78 coupler in the draft gear castings supplied with each kit.  The two tank car kits can use McHenry shelf couplers (Kit 104 with minor modification to the draft gear castings and Kit 111 with no modifications.)

MINI CD-ROM or FULL SIZE?

A new feature has been added to the Catalog page, an option to get all of the product info for your order on a full sized CD-ROM.  This option is provided for the growing number of Mac and laptop computer users that can't work directly off of the mini CD-ROM that is usually included in the kit box.

When you add the Full Size CD-ROM to your shopping cart, a 1 cent item will be added to your order indicating your request for a full sized CD.  (Sorry, the shopping cart won't let me do it for free!) In order to cut down on the amount of  extra "junk" you have to deal with, the mini CDs will be removed from the kits.

Should you want both the mini CD-ROMs that usually come with the kits *and* the Full Size CD, you can select that option for just $1.00 per order.

SHOW SCHEDULE

Here is a list of upcoming shows Rail Yard Models will be attending. If you know you would like to purchase specific kits at these events, it is best to pre-order. I try to bring a supply of kits to each show, but have been known to sell out of certain popular models. Pre-ordering guarantees you will get the kits you want. All you need to do is send an e-mail before the event deadline listing the event you will be at and kits you would like to get. You can pre-pay by PayPal or pay at the show by cash or check unless otherwise instructed. (Please don't use the shopping cart, it will charge shipping!)
