In 1967, the New York Central had 205 of these distinctive lot 122-F cars built by Greenville Steel Car. The unique fixed bulkhead design and lack of covers set this car apart from most every coil steel car of it's time. In 1968, the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie took delivery of 100 154F cars built by the ex-NYC Despatch Shops in East Rochester, NY. The 154F cars were clones of the Greenville built cars with only minor differences. Through the years, the 122-F cars were handed off first to Penn Central, then Conrail and are currently serving CSX and Norfolk Southern. The 154F cars were sold to National Steel in 1976 and are still in service today.

Our craftsman kit includes a single piece body casting with separate metal coil troughs, bulkheads and detail parts such as the Plano etched metal end platforms shown below. A "stealth weight set" made by Adair Shops is included to help get these cars up to the proper running weight. The cars will accept Kadee #78 couplers in the kit's castings. Accu-mate Proto:HO couplers will fit as well. (Couplers not included) Correct 125 ton trucks with 38" semi-scale metal wheelsets are included.
The detailed CD-ROM instructions include a full color prototype history document, a step-by-step assembly guide with almost 100 color illustrations and lettering diagrams. Kits are available with your choice of decals.
